Why they shine
Ludwig Göransson built a superhero score out of instruments he recorded in Africa, and it won him an Oscar; four years later he scored a film about the man who built the atomic bomb using the sound of 1950s radio equipment, and it won him another. On 15 March 2026, scoring Ryan Coogler's Sinners with blues, gospel and strings, he took a third Best Original Score Oscar, more than any composer this century. His partnership with Coogler began at USC and now spans five films, and his work also covers two seasons of The Mandalorian, two Emmy wins and the scores for Creed and Tenet.
