Why they shine
Amy Madigan had been a working actress for 35 years and an Oscar nominee for exactly one of them, for the 1985 family drama Twice in a Lifetime. Four decades later, at 75, she took Best Supporting Actress for Weapons as Aunt Gladys, the witch kept out of the press tour and the marketing so the film's twist would survive. Her screen time runs about twelve minutes, and she takes nearly all of it in the last half hour of the picture. The award was the first of the acting prizes handed out that night, and she accepted it with a joke about the difference between then and now.
