Why they shine
Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert met as summer-camp counsellors at a New York film school and kept making strange little films together after hours, and the industry came to know them simply as the Daniels. Their second feature, Everything Everywhere All at Once, was seven years in the making and turned a multiverse of exhausted laundry owners into the year's most humane comedy. At the 95th Academy Awards on 12 March 2023 it took seven Oscars from eleven nominations: Best Picture, which they shared as producers, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay and three acting awards. On stage Kwan admitted his impostor syndrome was at an all-time high.
